Our friends across the pond may already be familiar with Amara, a luxury home goods site based in the UK – but they’ve recently launched a US version of their site, so today they’re giving away a $500 gift card to anyone in the world! In their virtual catalog you’ll find a ton of pretty things bearing a bunch of familiar designer names: Missoni, Orla Kiely, Ralph Lauren and Jonathan Adler just to name a few. And in addition to home items (from furniture and bedding to decorative accessories and servingware), they’ve also got some clothing, body care, and other good stuff mixed in there too.
Please use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter (it might take a second to load, but it should eventually pop up below this paragraph). This giveaway is worldwide and Amara is also offering $40 off any order over $200 through the end of the year with code YHL40!

Holy cats! I just checked out the website and I love it. Thanks for the heads up!

How fun! I was so surprised to see your post today and had to read it twice. My daughter (age 15) is named Amara, and she and I both agree this must be a wonderful company. How could they not be with such a name!
YoungHouseLove says
Second Amara we’ve heard of so far! It’s a lovely name!

I MUST HAVE THAT SQUIRREL!! :) Great giveaway!
Rachel says
This is random……but do you guys have people that you know, like from church or something, always trying to rope you into their project such-and-such since “you already know how?”
I think it would be hard to know so much about DIY and not feel used by people always wanting your handiness.
YoungHouseLove says
That’s funny because we were talking to a friend of ours about that and we honestly don’t have very many people who ask our help. Maybe sometimes with picking a paint color (that’s so easy and fun for us we love that though!) and occasionally a relative or friend will let us help them paint a room or fix it up a little (like we did for John’s sister or his Granny’s bathroom) but I think people generally think “they do this all the time, they probably don’t want to do any more of it with me – so let’s talk about something else” – at least that’s what it seems like. I’d say 99% of our conversations with friends have nothing to do with DIY. How funny is that?!

Janet S. says
Ooops. You spelled Jonathan’s name wrong. You might want to fix that. :)
Great giveaway! Thanks for the chance!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Janet! I kept staring at it and saying “what’s wrong with it?!” Usually when one of us has a typo, the other can spot it! But John switching the D and the L totally skipped past my brain and it was invisible to me too!

A wee typo on Adler, ma dear (Alder).

Thanks Anna! John’s fingers were too fast, and my brain didn’t catch it. All fixed :)

So excited to see a world-wide competition! That means even little ol’ me in South Africa have a chance of winning!
Caroline says
1) I love your blog!
2) I hate to be ‘that’ person, but given your love for him, I thought you’d like to know that Johnathan Adler’s name is misspelled in this post. (Though, to be fair, Johnathan Alder is a pretty sweet name too!) :)
3) Keep being awesome!
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, I kept staring at it and saying “what’s wrong with it?!” Usually when one of us has a typo, the other can spot it! But John switching the D and the L totally skipped past my brain and it was invisible to me too! Thanks for the tip Caroline!

Great giveaway! And another resource to go window shop. Y’all are making budgeting very difficult when it comes to making our new home “ours.”
Nicki says
Great giveaway today! Thanks for the opportunity! I am loving everything you have done with the new house so far!
Donna says
Sherry, I know you do a TON of painting, so I was wondering if you could advise: I bought wood doll bunk beds, but the colors are really boring and I thought I’d re-paint them. Am I better off using a small roller, a brush, or a foam brush for this task? And do I need to prime, since they are already painted white? Thank you so much!
YoungHouseLove says
I would use a small foam roller (with a brush to get into the little cracks) just because that’ll go faster and hide brush strokes. I would definitely prime since paint over paint can chip right off without a bonding coat of primer to join them. Hope it helps!

I’ve been thinking about this for some time and just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of your awesome giveaways and for NOT soliciting us to “pin this” or “share this” or “tweet this” or “facebook this”, etc. Athough I have yet to win (insert sad face) I appreciate your simple giveaways!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Alicia! Every week the winner seems to say “Oh my gosh I never win anything!” so here’s hoping your turn is right around the corner!

Hi! I have been a reader for a while now, and I know this answer is somewhere on the blog. I can’t seem to find it though. I am redoing a rocker for my nursery, and I am going to spray paint the chair. What type of VOC-free spray paint and primer do you recommend? We just want a clean, white color.
Thanks!
YoungHouseLove says
Saldy they don’t make VOC free spray paint yet, so I’d use low-VOC primer (like Smart Prime by Zinsser) and VOC-free paint (like Natura by BM or Mythic or Olympic Premium) and then seal it with SafeCoat Acrylacq if you need a sealer (it’s non-toxic so we always use it for kid stuff!).

This may be a dumb question that’s already been answered… But does that rafflecopter widget-thingy notify the winner in some way? I mean, I’m not the least bit surprised to not have won any of the giveaways on here, but I’m wondering if I need to still come back and check like in the old days… ;) Thanks!
YoungHouseLove says
We email the winner but sometimes it ends up in spam so it doesn’t hurt to check back (and enter with a recognizable and unique name so you don’t get confused if you see your name but wonder if the winner is someone else with the same one :)

I just saw a rug that made me swoon. Oh, I want it! Pick me! Pick me!
Diane says
I too, was wondering about the winners of your great giveaways. Did you every consider announcing the winner from the previous week on the current week’s contest? I like closure! HA!
YoungHouseLove says
We actually link back to the winner with a little PS announcement every Friday at the bottom of the post! Admittedly it’s not always super obvious to see, but it’s a link above the Forum Foursome and if you click it you’ll see the Rafflecopter box with the winner displayed right on it!

This is very random, but thought you guys might know— is there a website that I can type my room dimensions and it can show me options as far as furniture layout/placement? I’m having so much trouble with my living room!
YoungHouseLove says
Try floorplanner.com! We have used the free version before and found it helpful. You have to create the furniture yourself but then you can build it to scale with yours and move it around to see what works best.

Question: you guys refer to a freebie bonus question at the end of all your giveaway posts. What is it?? I assume it’s some sort of trivia question that you can answer to earn another entry? But I guess I’m not quick enough, because I never see it…
Also, have you ever calculated odds for winning? Just curious!
Love the blog, love you guys, congrats on the bean!
YoungHouseLove says
If you click that link wherever we refer to it (the words “over on our forums”) it’ll take you to that bonus question. It’s just for fun (people missed them when we stopped doing comment submissions to contests and moved to a Rafflecopter system, so they’re not necessary to win, but folks like chatting over there and seeing other people’s responses. As for the odds of winning, everyone gets one entry so it’s 1 in _____ (however many people enter each week). So if the contest closes and there are 10,000 entries, the odds are 1/10,000 of winning. Hope it helps!

I’m so excited! Totally can’t believe I get a $500 shopping spree. There are a ton of great things on this site, it will be hard to pick! My husband and I are in the beginning stages of a kitchen makeover (painting cabinets, new counters etc) this will be a perfect way to finish it off. Thanks John and Sherry.

Silly question… Do winners get notified by email? My name is also Jen H, but obviously I wasn’t the winner (I wish!)… But for future, does the winner get an email or only find out by coming back to the post? Looked through the giveaway terms and conditions into the FAQ and just couldn’t find the answer. Sorry if this has been asked 1000 times and answered elsewhere
YoungHouseLove says
Yes, we email the winner but sometimes it goes to spam, so checking the post doesn’t hurt either :)
