We know you’ve seen lots of pictures of our house. But lots of video, not so much. In fact, we realized it’s been over a year and a half since we’ve posted a room-by-room tour of Casa Petersik. And in that time we’ve swapped a spare bedroom for a nursery, added a two-person office/playroom to our guest room, and totally gutted our bathroom. And although you’ve seen pics of those makeovers we know sometimes it helps to see ’em in 3D (and now in HD thanks to our latest purchase: the Flip Mino HD). So you can finally visualize how the rooms all connect. No breaking and entering required.
Plus we’re not gonna lie. We’ve been cleaning the house like crazy to put it on the market, so it’s as good a time as any to document this baby. Without further ado, we give you fine people The 2010 YHL House Tour (view it on YouTube here):
Yes Clara passed gas at the end of the video. How’s that for keeping it real?
And if you’re in the mood for a blast from the past or two, you can see our original half-house tour from November of 2007 (warning: the kitchen is mid-renovation) or the updated full-house tour from March of 2008. Oh, and there’s also the better production-quality version of the tour, shot by The Nest in November of 2008. So much self-conscious cringing, so little time.
Psst- What’s been around my lady’s neck lately? Check out our BabyCenter post of the week for the scoop.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Favorite part was when Clara tooted goodbye!! so cute! hhaha :)
I will surely miss this house when you guys sell and change homes, but it’s exciting to know that there will be another home to make your own!

Great tour! And I am so relieved to finally know where your microwave is (not to mention the green shelf). :-)
I’m curious: you’ve recently done the nursery makeover and the office makeover, both of which are fantastic, but pretty specific to your family’s needs. My question is, did you know you were going to sell when you designed these areas, and if so, did you give any thought to making the decor more “generic” to appeal to a wider variety of buyers?
Hey Holly,
We were going back and forth between selling in the spring instead of the fall or even building an addition, so in the end we did those room makeovers with only our needs in mind. Thankfully potential buyers might have a need for an office/guest room or a nursery so we figure that they might still appeal to many people passing through. And at the end of the day we figure that most people are savvy enough to know that they can repaint or use different art/accessories/furnishings to make those spaces theirs. Hope it helps!

Toot! That’s what we call it here, too! lol :-)
Loved your tour, thanks for showing me around!
What exactly did Clara do there at the end? Hard to tell in the video.
And I love those wall mirrors in the bedroom, those seem to be an addition I hadn’t noticed before.
It is a bit hard to hear, but she audibly passed gas (as baby’s tend to do). This time it just happened to be on cue so we thought it was too amusing to edit out.

Haha, I never would have known that was a toot!
Oh my goodness! I just had my first instance of someone passing off one of your pics as their own, on ATL craigslist. I was searching for “full bed” and recognized your guest bed. No credit or any explanation that the pic was not the real item. I bet this happens all the time, but I thought it was funny!
Duh…did I completely skip over your sentence under the video that told me that? LOL!
No worries! We figure a limited amount of people actually call it tooting. Ha.

You guys are too cute! Just started following your site about 3 months ago after a friend who loves interior design as much as I do recommended it. Thanks for sharing your lives!
Thank you for not editing! What a lovely little tour and family. Congrats on such an exciting time in your lives. So many possibilities…
PS – What’s on the front of Clara’s door?
It’s a pink banner from John that says “It’s a girl!” He decorated the house when he came home to let Burger out during our hospital stay, so when we got home the house looked festive.

Such a great house…it’s going to get scooped up by some lucky family I’m sure!!
Quick questions (before there are hundreds of comments on this post). Where do you put your shoes when you come inside? (in the sunroom? or laundry room? didn’t see any you’ve picked up so well!)
Also…where did you get your comforter/duvet in your bedroom? I love it!
We have a basket to the right of the door in the sunroom where we drop our shoes (you can see it in the big sunroom revaal post here). And the duvet is from West Elm but they no longer make it so maybe try eBay?

Sherry. Every time my 12 week old hears your voice she stops whatever she is doing, listens and smiles!!
Just thought you should know.
That’s cute! Maybe my annoying voice sounds like your voice did back when it was all distorted through the amniotic fluid when she was still in the womb. That’s all I can come up with to explain it…

Thanks for the tour! I’m in love with your bathroom vanity idea. My husband and I are in the planning stages of renovating ours and love the idea of using a stand or another really simple piece of furniture as the base. Thanks for all the ideas!
Cute video – thanks for putting it all together for us.
And thanks for the BabyCenter link – what a cute idea. One question – would you consider linking to the Etsy shop where John bought the necklace? If not, no worries – I just love to check out Etsy shops with recommendations from others.
Hey Clare,
Here’s the etsy seller for ya: http://www.etsy.com/shop/karinagracejewelry
Looks like she’s on vacation right now!

Such a fun tour! I really enjoyed seeing the layout in a walk through. How tall are your ceilings? I couldn’t figure out if they were really tall, Sherry is not as tall as I thought she was, or if it was an optical illusion! Also, our family totally calls it tooting – hilarious!
Hey Melinda,
Our ceilings are standard (8 feet) but I’m sub-standard (5’2″).

I totally didn’t just scream ‘Oh my gosh it’s John and Clara and my postcard all together!’
… (:
I love my postcard’s fame! That little red phone box from a small English town is going places in the blogging world.
Also, love the tour… And I think Clara might hate you one day for that little baby accident at the end!
Love the video and Clara’s little toot!
I remember you got your master bedroom rug from World Market. Do you have a rug pad under it? We are thinking of replacing the carpet in our master with a pre-finished hardwood. Would this carpet damage the finish without a rug pad? I’d like to place it under our bed too. Thanks!
Wish I could buy your house. I wouldn’t need to change a single wall color. It is perfect!
Nope no rug pad since the bed keeps it in place. It hasn’t hurt our floor at all!

“Say bye Clara” “pfft” the look on John’s face…Sherry’s commentary of Clara’s Toot and then finally Clara’s precious face after releasing..HILARIOUS!
Yay for a new house tour! It’s so fun to see how your house is laid out since it’s hard to tell how the rooms connect through pictures. Your house looks great and I’m sure it you’ll have it sold in no time!
Beautiful home.
For the showings it would be better to clear away some of the knick knacks and all of the personal photos, etc. Buyers will be ogling your Stuff instead of appreciating your house. Will make the space look larger too.
From an overactive HGTV viewer…. :)
3D? I’ll go get my glasses!!
Looks great! It’s fun to see how everything connects.
Does the master bedroom not have a built-in closet?
I think that they way that you have decorated (specific to your tastes) actually shows potential buyers possibilities that they may not have thought of.
It’s gorge and I wish you well on this new adventure!
Hey GreeninOC,
We actually also have a small standard closet in the bedroom (to the left of the bed, across from the window). Three closets definitely beat one!

Thanks for sharing – fun and adorable with Clara!
love this! thanks for the tour. i love the layout of your house! our little place is basically a huuuuge open room for living, dining, and kitchen, and i miss having separate little nooks for separate spaces. you’re also inspiring me to open up the place a little bit. time to get my DIY on!
and your daughter is SO GORGEOUS!
JOHN… you da man, bro! scoring major points with the misses with the green necklace. (trust me, i would know. 4 years ago when our little man was born, i surprised my better half with a string o pearls to mark the occasion, and she gets all misty-eyed when she puts them on. women are funny, reminiscent little people. gotta love that)…
Good job!
Your house looks great. It should sell in a nanosecond! Thanks for the tour. I love the shiny white gourds under the microwave – very clever.
What a fabulous tour! I love your love of white everything :)
LOL @ Sherry’s fear of Clara microwaving the dog! It’s amusing what types of things we have to worry about once there are children involved, ha ha!
Will you be covering in a future post about what you’ll be taking from the house? like your cool faucet or something that’s attached to the house that you can’t bear to part with?
Yup, we’ll have to work all that out with whoever buys the house (fingers crossed!) – and we’ll definitely share those details when we do!
xo,
s
Love your lovely home!
Maybe you already mentioned it somewhere but are you planning to take down personal pictures? I know when we sold our condo our agent recommended it, even though we only had about 3 pictures out. I don’t know if it what that or not but it sold in 2 weeks!
We’ll share any tweaks that we pull off as we go! Stay tuned…

I must say when John was taping I found myself trying to move my head around to see what was behind you or beside you. Hahaha. He is most interested in YOU in this video.
That is too funny. I watched the video, but didn’t turn on the volumn because I am at work…but seeing John’s expression at the end of the video as well as having a very gassy 3 1/2 month old myself, I guessed that Clara ripped one before I even read the rest of your post. It’s ok. The best one our little guy did was early one morning. I was nursing him in bed and my husband farted loudly and then the baby farted right back. Male bonding I guess.
Where did you find your light that is over the sink in the kitchen? I’m looking for one just like it. Great tour! Thanks for the continual inspiration.
C
It’s from West Elm a while back- maybe try ebay and search “seeded glass pendant light”? Hope it helps!

How cute, Clara wanted to voice her opinion too!!
Love the house tour, but I’m asking a hair question. Sherry, do you blow dry your hair before you put it in a pony tail? Do you ever think of cutting it short like it was before?
I haven’t used a blow dryer in years, I’m just a wash and wear girl. Back when my hair was short I had to flat-iron it (it’s actually kind of wavy) so this is an easier mom on the go hairstyle for now. Never say never though…

Okay, Youngsters, you have officially exceeded your daily quota of cute. Seriously, could you guys be any cuter?
JK… hoping to see y’all on HGTV one day. Great on-camera personalities!
And the precious, farting baby didn’t hurt, either.
Seriously. The farting baby was the clincher!

3 are TOTALLY better than one!
Do you have a post on these? Did you build them completely yourselves?
I am SO curious – it is SUCH a great idea. Well, actually, it’s not a great idea – it’s GENIUS!!
Yup! Here’s the post: https://www.younghouselove.com/2008/02/over-our-heads/

That ending is priceless!!!
man…everything’s smaller than it seems in pics. You guys do a great job of making it seem spacious.
Heck yeah- this is a tiny house!

The toot was priceless. That Clara really knows how to steal the show. Her timing is impeccable!
LOVE the tour, LOVE the house!! And that toot was right on cue! Haha. Too cute!
Hey, how do you guys take in your reader redesigns? By email? I’ve been a follower forever and we just redesigned the nursery for our little bean. :) I’d love to share. Took a huge cue from your mood boards.
clara sure knows how to wrap up the video! :)
On one of your links to the past videos you mentioned in the comments that you had a hall project spruce up thing going on…did you ever post that? I cannot find it!!
Hey Sarah,
Alas, we never got around to it! We planned to build in a bunch of shallow shelves and lean art and things up against them (which would obscure the thermostat and make the hallway feel a bit more polished). We also wanted to tile the floor in front of the living room fireplace and even possibly do the kitchen backsplash. Our to-do list is always there! Maybe we’ll get around to those projects in the next house!
xo,
s
That was too cute!!! Clara is just adorable. Thanks for sharing!!
Regarding the comment about someone stealing your pics on craigslist: have you guys thought of watermarking your pictures?
We have, but in the end we just hate to stamp everything with YHL. We just prefer to request that people remove our images if they use ’em- which works like a charm.
xo,
s
Did you guys put the pocket door in yourselves? We have a very narrow hallway on our second floor, and the doors are kind of an issue. But our house is old (130+ years), and the walls are plaster, so I’m not sure pockets would be an option for us. Any how-to info would be much appreciated!
Hey Rachel,
It actually came with the house, so we didn’t install it. Maybe you can google around or check out youtube.com for a tutorial?
xo,
s
srsly cute! so what is the dealio…are book or tv plans n the future? seems like the purchasing and reno of a new home with a blog n a baby would make for excellent tv viewing…are you listening hgtv?!??!
No TV for us! We actually were approached a while ago by a few networks and production houses but we just had to politely decline. Although we’re huge over-sharers on the blog, we’re actually kind of shy about cameras and we hate the idea of trading the blog for a show (since we could never find enough hours in the day to do both). YHL is our baby, so we could never trade it in for something like that. Bloggers forever. Or at least for as long as we love what we’re doing!
xo,
s
Love it! It really does help to go 3D through the house. I know you guys will have NO problem selling thanks to all the fab-o work you’ve done! Clara’s “toot” was priceless – plus the look on her face.
Are you planning to remove any furniture and accessories for the purposes of staging your house?
We’ll share that adventure as we go. Off the bat we plan to keep things pretty much as-is, because we truly believe that a house that feels loved and lived in is one that appeals to buyers. We’re not big believers in the paint-everything-beige-and-get-rid-of-every-family-picture school of thought. Who knows how desperate we’ll get though!
